Tapo C246D is a wired, indoor/outdoor dual-lens security camera built for people who want to monitor two separate areas from a single device. Made by TP-Link’s Tapo brand, this camera is well suited for backyards, entrances, and nurseries where minimizing blind spots is a genuine priority.
At the core of Tapo C246D is its dual 2K 3MP lens design. A wide-angle lens with a 125° field of view covers a broad area, while a 6mm telephoto pan/tilt lens focuses in for detailed close-ups, together capturing the full picture with just one camera.
What makes Tapo C246D especially capable is its synchronized smart tracking. When the fixed wide-angle lens detects movement, the pan/tilt lens automatically pivots to focus on and track the moving subject. A one-tap smart focus feature also lets users select any point in the wide view and have the telephoto lens zoom in instantly, without complex manual controls.
Coverage is another strong point. The pan/tilt lens on Tapo C246D rotates a full 360° horizontally and up to 180° vertically, allowing Patrol Mode to maintain continuous surveillance across up to 8 customized preset viewing points on a personalized schedule.
Smart detection is built directly into the system and completely free. Tapo C246D uses AI to identify people, pets, vehicles, and baby cries, sending accurate alerts without any subscription fees. Customizable activity zones let users define specific areas, ensuring notifications only arrive for what truly matters.
Night monitoring is equally flexible, offering vibrant full-color vision with spotlights, discreet black-and-white infrared, or an automatic mode that switches between the two depending on conditions.
Placement flexibility is a major strength as well. Tapo C246D can be positioned upright or upside down, placed on a desk, mounted on a wall or ceiling, or even held by a rod, adapting easily to almost any indoor or outdoor setting. With an IP65 weatherproof rating, it performs reliably through rain, snow, dust, and heat.
Storage stays flexible too, supporting local microSD recording up to 512GB or optional Tapo Care cloud storage. Two-way audio with a built-in siren, along with compatibility with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Samsung SmartThings, rounds out a genuinely versatile camera.
